Description: Fundraiser - Ruth Beedham (cello) and Marcus Andrews (piano)
Fundraising concert for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity and Concerts Originaux Des Amis (registered charity 286544).

Local musicians Ruth Beedham and Marcus Andrews perform an exciting cello and piano programme.

Ruth Beedham studied at Trinity College of Music with Alison Wells and Natasha Pavlutskaya. Whilst at Trinity Ruth won the Leonard Smith Prize for string and piano duo and was awarded a scholarship to continue her studies with a postgraduate diploma. She now studies privately with Naomi Butterworth.

Ruth has been guest soloist with Wandsworth Symphony Orchestra and St Paul’s Sinfonia, and made a solo demo recording for Oscar-winning film composer Rachel Portman.

She currently teachers at City of London School, Centre for Young Musicians, Tunbridge Wells Girls Grammar School and The Judd School. Ruth is also a tutor on the NLMS Summer School, working with amateur musicians.

She is a keen chamber musician and, with Marcus, was a member of the Backman Trio for six years. They performed at the new music hall in Helsinki and made a recording for Finnish radio station YLE 1. The trio’s recording of British and Finnish piano trios was released in 2014, receiving a recommendation in Gramophone Magazine.

Marcus Andrews has given solo, chamber, and concerto performances at major venues in London, as well as at music societies and festivals across the United Kingdom and beyond. His varied career has included live broadcasts on In Tune on BBC Radio 3, a tour of Lebanon with flautist Wissam Boustany and a stage production in Bermuda with English Chamber Theatre. His debut recording featured works by Beethoven and Medtner and these composers have continued to feature in his repertoire. He has performed all the Beethoven piano concerti in a series with St Paul’s Sinfonia.

Marcus began his studies with Yvonne Catterall Dinwiddy who was herself a student of Medtner. Subsequently he studied with Simon Young at Trinity Laban, where he was awarded the Keyboard Silver Medal and won the Jaques Samuel Pianos Prize. A master’s followed at the University of Connecticut with Neal Larrabee, where he was Graduate Assistant Accompanist and the recipient of the E. B. Storrs Scholarship. Marcus then studied Beethoven intensively with John O’Conor on the Fondazione Culturale Wilhelm Kempff Masterclass in Positano, Italy.
